I have drawn, and made sculpture since early childhood, spurred on by the urge to create and that strange compulsion to say things through art that seem original and unique.  Growing up in Dorset, I think I was also very much influenced by my environment.   Not only is the countryside beautiful but one can see how ancient peoples have left their mark on it with hill forts and quarries and how the sea continually carves away at the cliffs, changing their shape and often revealing fossils that have lain buried for thousands of years.   This linking of shape with narrative and history, (paradoxically combined with a sense of timelessness due to such great age), echos for me in the making of sculpture.  It is something to do with its physical presence and even, sometimes, gravitas – a feeling that it could tell us things, if we can only tune in to its special way of speaking.

This communication remains my focus in making.  Fed by a myriad of past experiences and aiming for pieces which have a ‘presence’ of their own, I hope that something that I have made will ‘speak’ to you.  If it does, please message me to let me know.  Even though you might not want to buy anything, all feedback is cheerfully received.

I have been making sculpture full time for the past 25 years.   Before this I fitted it around other employment in medicine, journalism and film.  I have a degree from Cambridge University in the History of Art (and in Medicine) and wrote my BA dissertation on the British sculptor, Frank Dobson.  I have completed many practical training courses in Fine Art both in England at colleges such as the John Cass School of Art, Morley College, and Middlesex University as well as Art Schools in Brussels. 

Probably thanks to my medical background, my work often concentrates on the human figure, but not exclusively.   I work in a variety of media, including steel, stone, wood, ceramic and most recently eco-friendly polymers.  I enjoy the creative freedom that this entails and how each different material influences the finished piece.

I am a current member of the Oxford Sculptors’ Group, the Cotswold Sculptors Association and a-n the artist’s association, and a previous member of the Medical Art Society and the Surrey Sculptors Association.

I welcome commissions and exhibit locally, nationally and internationally.  My work is in both public and private collections, including those of celebrities,  across the UK, Europe and Australia.             

I have received commendation from the Medical Art society, been shortlisted in 2016 for the Banbury Ironstone art prize and the Oxford Change the World art competition,

In 2018 I was awarded a commendation in the Luxembourg art prize as ‘one to watch’
